so what does ics have to offer your phone

well, the immediately noticeable differences in the UI are the screen unlock, the way the battery icon and the network signal icons are more sharp edged. And when you invoke a menu by tapping the left touch, you no longer see grids, the options are always in a list. And when you enter the settings menu, there are quicker alternate ways of getting your wifi and bluetooth on. the settings menu is more 'classified'. I've had a feeling that Temple Run is more graceful and performant on the ICS.  And ya! the face unlock, though not as secure as a PIN or a pattern unlock, its still something geeky to have, i guess. and a whole lot of sophistications in the developer options. Well thats it for now, will update this post as and when i find out more

ICS update for the Samsung Galaxy S2

Finally, Samsung rolled out the ICS update for Samsung galaxy S2 in India. For a big while, I'd been feeling very down, as in India, I've to pay nearly 2.5 to 3 times, the cost of the phone compared to the Europe or the US and still I gotta wait after the entire world's got its ICS. Anyway, after a long wait, ICS finally arrived in India and DuH! I could not get an OTA update as I'd upgraded to some unofficial firmware 2.3.6 for India and so Samsung did not recognize my phone! But, thanks to this link, I knew that I'd have to do it manually. http://forum.xda-developers. com/showthread.php?t=1075278 The above link provides very useful and clear information as to which firmware version is official for a country and simple steps to flash your Samsung galaxy  S2 through Odin A special thanks to Jayce Ooi for clarifying that XWLP7 was the official ICS firmware for India.

Samsung Galaxy S2

Samsung Galaxy S2, the eye-popper and mouth-gaper phone! I was never a fan of Samsung phones, I was the "Cell endraal Nokia" (If its a cell phone, its gotta be Nokia) types. But android was simply too irresistible. And everyone was going gaga over the Samsung Galaxy S2. Launched in India, sometime in May 2010, I had to spend a solid 4 months in making up my mind if I'd to invest $600 (30k INR) for a phone. Then after some good amount of thought, I went for it. Now i know its worth every penny. So! Samsung Galaxy S2!! What does it have to offer? A 1.2 GHz dual core processor, ok, sounds cool! A Super AMOLED Plus screen, supposedly a scratch resistant Gorilla glass (good for careless fellas like me) An 8 MP megapixel camera, huh... hmmmm.. ok..  Full HD recording and playback! Wow! Thats happening! 16GB internal memory expandable upto 32GB with micro SD.. so thats where all the HD videos go An ultra slim and light weight phone, it took me sometime to get used to t...

looking for tools-> options in your firefox browser in a Linux machine?

Image
Been working on linux systems very recently.. the system arrived with all the fun configuration that could be expected but the surprise was in store when i opened the firefox browser in the Linux OS. The browser when opened for the first time takes you to the mozilla page where it talks about the Mozilla foundation and the firefox project and stuff. And all i saw was a "Firefox could not establish a connection" page! :( Oh great! No proxies! So it was basically a known problem. Without a second's passing, i clicked on Tools in Firefox to configure the proxy settings. And this was what my reaction was when the Tools menu showed up! There was no Options at all!!! So i was under the assumption that i had to be some super user or an administrator to have the privileges to change and configure the internet settings in firefox on linux. Almost a week passed before i realised that the 'Preferences' is under Edit menu in Firefox as against Tools menu in Windows . I felt ...

brilliance consumed by barbarism

We'd been to Warangal in AP, India last summer. Only when we reached there, did i realize the treasure trove that our motherland truly is. Lying in ruins in front of our eyes, were the reconstructed remains of a once flourished dynasty of kings, under whose patronage was spawned a variety of hair rising architectural concepts. Displayed here is a picture of a beautiful sculpture of an elephant giving birth to a calf and the bull helping it when its in labour. And we're talking about this detail not in a huge piece of rock, but in something that was barely 2.5 feet by 1.25 feet. In the pic, it is seen that the two elephants are standing back to back, separated by a pillar. The way the elephants are using the pillar for support is well thought of. The bull and the mother are pulling the pillar in opposite directions (towards each other) so that the mother exerts the force needed to deliver the calf by pulling the pillar, held in place by the bull. Whether the bull is using anot...
