Samsung Galaxy S2

Samsung Galaxy S2, the eye-popper and mouth-gaper phone! I was never a fan of Samsung phones, I was the "Cell endraal Nokia" (If its a cell phone, its gotta be Nokia) types. But android was simply too irresistible. And everyone was going gaga over the Samsung Galaxy S2. Launched in India, sometime in May 2010, I had to spend a solid 4 months in making up my mind if I'd to invest $600 (30k INR) for a phone. Then after some good amount of thought, I went for it. Now i know its worth every penny.

So! Samsung Galaxy S2!! What does it have to offer?
  • A 1.2 GHz dual core processor, ok, sounds cool!
  • A Super AMOLED Plus screen, supposedly a scratch resistant Gorilla glass (good for careless fellas like me)
  • An 8 MP megapixel camera, huh... hmmmm.. ok..
  • Full HD recording and playback! Wow! Thats happening!
  • 16GB internal memory expandable upto 32GB with micro SD.. so thats where all the HD videos go
  • An ultra slim and light weight phone, it took me sometime to get used to the phone's lightweight..
  • Integrated Maps and Network Assisted GPS.
  • And a horde of apps from the android market which enhance fun, entertainment, productivity, information, etc, etc.
Wow! Like PO says in KFP2, thats severely cool!!!

Personally, the camera is not so great indoors! But outdoors, its awesome! You can shoot macros, panoramas, throw some sepia and negative effects. Camera's effects are enhanced by android apps like retro camera, fxcamera and the like.

The SUPER AMOLED PLUS screen is the eye-catcher. Makes the display so brilliant, especially for HD videos and gaming.

The processor speed is just awesome! Never got stuck with any app till now. You can be on the phone, transfer files via bluetooth, download a song from the internet and play a game all at the same time!!

Flip side of the coin:

The flip side is the battery backup. Nearly 35 to 45% of the battery gets consumed by the display. So not so ideal during overnight train or bus journeys. Apparently the upcoming ice cream sandwich update is gonna take care of it. Lets see!!

The camera is not so great indoors. Photo editing is not very friendly.

The software Kies is highly unmanageable and clumsy. Half the times, I cannot get my device recognized.

But that apart, the samsung galaxy S2 is truly an owner's pride, thats worth every penny! One of the best android phones that ever will be and thats not just because i bought it :-)
