Diecast - Did You Know?

 This specific post will be an aggregation of some cool facts, some that I have learnt first hand and some from all the cool stories during the nerd out sessions I have had with my fellow collectors. I will keep updating this frequently whenever my memory spits out something.

What is ADLAR58?

A recurring theme/decal in some hotwheels or matchbox models is ADLAR58. This is actually a signature of the legendary hot wheels designer Michael Heralda. ADLAR58 is Heralda written backwards with numbers for letters E and H, 5 and 8 respectively. Mike is a super cool guy who started his diecast designing career with Hot Wheels and then moved over to Matchbox. Even though he has designed  the decals for various models, he is best known for the famous National Parks/Forest Service theme in matchbox. Some of the rare models sell for over a 100 bucks on ebay.

Manoranjitham flower

A very beautiful name to begin with. Manoranjitham is a plant, prevalent in India, actually, it I knew it cos it grew in my neighbour's frontyard. Its very popular in Tamilnadu and Andhra Pradesh. Its a plant thats strong enough to stand on it own but since it spreads wide, it clings on to supports with hook like outgrowths from its shoots. The curved hook is very tender and green in the beginning but once it has caught hold of a support, it tends to encircle and harden as wood around the support, which could be a cable or a slender shoot of another plant. The hooks look very elvish like it comes in LOTR. the hook used for climbing and support the Elvish leaves And the main highlight is the flower. Manoranjitham has flowers, one each at a leaf node of a growing branch. Its not brightly coloured, rather it looks like leaves, in a pale green when fully bloomed and tends to yellow on as it gets older. And what it lacks in colour, it compensates double in fragrance. A

STH and Regular - Differences

I have always wanted to write a post about the differences between an STH and its regular version car. I was lucky enough to find the 2008 Lancer Evolution STH from the 2015 K case of Hot Wheels. STHs are Super/Secret Treasure Hunts. They are a much premium version of a regular diecast model with special Spectraflame paintjob, a high level of detailing, extra tampos and real rider rubber tyres. They are produced in very low quantities compared to the regular diecast versions. Let us look at some of the differences between an STH and its regular diecast First, is the difference in the card graphics art. The STH usually has some additional graphical detailing or liveries on the hood.  Then, the same differences are also seen in the actual diecast model. making the eggless Pillsbury Cooker Cake

This was one of my most relished adventures and the first of its kind.. baking a cake. I am a vegetarian who stays away from cakes cos of the egg content. It so happened when i was browsing the shelves in the local supermarket, i hit upon this pack that read "Pillsbury Eggless Cooker Cake - Rich Chocolate Flavoured Mix". Hmm.. a cake mix.. wow! and eggless!!?? woooooooowww!!! Well i took the bet and i bought it. The recipe was quite simple. Did not require any special exotic ingredients. 1)Take a bowl and add the cake mix to about two tablespoons of oil and 100ml of milk. Stir well so that the consistency is that of thick paste that is viscous enough yet free to flow from one bowl to the other. Make sure all the powder is gone and batter is completely semi solid. Add some raisins to the mix. Scatter some nut bits here and there. 2) Take a relatively thick vessel that is atleast 5 inches wide. I took a 5.5 - 6 inch vessel. Worked fine. 3) Grease the pan.
